We have purchased a Netezza!

We finished our proof of concept using a Twinfin. The results were amazing! We have an Oracle 10g RAC transaction system we just implemented into production at the end of 2009.  The system didn't have any reporting so we decided to build a reporting data repository using SQL Server.  We found that our home grown ETL process from Oracle to SQL server was taking way too long and the volume of data was too much to run reports against.  So we started building data cubes to access the data faster on SQL Server.  After the first few cubes were built as with most things we had to change them but some business users like the first cube and others liked the second cube.  We quickly noticed how much fun it is to build and maintain cubes. There had to be a better way.  So we found the Netezza guys and they said you don't need cubes.  What!?! NO CUBES!?! They must be joking we have millions or rows of data we need summary and drill down details. That would be great if we can get out of the cube business and be more about the data business.  So we brought in the Twinfin moved all of the data to the box in a few hours. It took us more the two days to cutover our legacy system data to Oracle just 4 months ago.  It isn't like we don't have a lot of data we have data.  Talk about data liberation, we could access transaction data, provide summary and support with the details very quickly. It was incredible. Our ETL process that we had built that took about 5 hours each night really isn't needed anymore. The best part is that we don't have to build cubes.  You just get the data!

Thanks for sharing this and congratulations on your recent "Liberation"!

I have to say that I really liked this:
