I could not find much information about how backup and restore is performed for Netezza appliances on web. But looks like there is utility like nzbackup and nzrestore which are used for this purpose. Also I got to know that netezza appliances are interoperable with EMC Legato, IBM Tivoliand Veritas. But I am still not very clear about how third party backup/restore vendor can add support for netezza appliances in its portfolio. Is there any public API  available which vendor needs to implement ? If not public , is there any membership using which such information can be requested  ? Or is the case that backup/restore product vendors would define a interface which Netezza appliance will implement. Last part seems very unlikely but still would like to know how this whole backup and restore of netezza appliances are implemented.
